I love Google for a search engine, but I really can't use the gmail. I get more spam than anything else.

I only use my Gmail account for spam now lol. I opened a new Yahoo email address for my proper emails.

I had to delete over 10,000 spam mails out of Gmail the other day!

10,000! Wow! Isn't there anything they can do about that? I am sure they would want more people to use it?

I thought G-Mail was supposed to have a spam filter better designed than Yahoo's. Isn't there a setting?

My spam filter through Gmail is MUCH better. Yes, you have to delete the spam (or let it time out, of course) but much, much fewer gets through to my inbox.

An informal poll really doesn't prove anything - maybe they use Gmail on many more transactions and it gets out more.

One would think that people who use the utility regularly would have the best information.

Sure, but if you poll 10 people, you're not getting a representative sample. If people are getting 10k spam messages, I really have to question how well they understand spam prevention anyway.

The point is they aren't having the inbox loaded with spam. That's the idea of the setting. You have to learn to work them to get the results. Like you say if people are getting swamped they are doing something wrong. Nice point.

I really prefer GMAIL to any other free e-mail services out there. Their functions (In built Gtalk, Spell checker, auto saved drafts etc) are simple amazing but I really thing that GMail supports SPAM. I keep gieeting tons of stories and other advertisments everyday. Currently hitting about 400 SPAM e-mails a day on average on all my accounts. (Some of which were never used for anything).

Then again, maybe that's how the pay for the 2G storage?

Whats wrong with the Spam mail? they are moved into the spam folder automatically! I dont even care and then once in a while I just select "Delete forever" and they get deleted!
