Hey Everyone!

I was hoping for some tips on how to get my website ranked higher in the search results of Google....

Does 'alt' text work?
Does Google use my meta tags or just my title tag?
Roughly how many backlinks does one need to get a PR6 ?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated Smile

Google does use meta tags.

As for getting a PR 6 - you're setting your sights very high! Many long term established sites have PR 6 or less. I don't think there's a "number" of backlinks - as backlinks from high PR sites have more priority. Only Google knows the final formula.

I use article web content and backlinks. Also look for free directories for more back links. Free blogs where you can work on a back link these all help.

Yes, my wife and I spend about 15 minutes each day submitting to a couple of directories, and it has helped a lot for us.

I submitted to a couple of free directories and about 20 pr5+ directories and within a few weeks I had a predicted PR4 site. With a bit of hard work Im sure you can do it. Smile

Make sure if you participate in blogs that you leave meaningful feedback, not SPAM which is likely to be removed!

Make sure your page titles contain terms you want to rank for and have page content that is relevant, and if possible unique! Work hard on gaining backlinks but also keep updating content so that people want to link to you.

I think buying some pr 5-6 links may be usefull.
Another good idea is to update your site frequently.
Blog may help you if you setup a blog in your site.

Sitemaps definitely seemed to help my site get fully indexed. Google's webmaster tools in general are worth spending some time with!
